Downhill Blues is a monologue that uses the swiss cheese analogy to explore discrimination. ‘Ownership’, ‘labelling’, ‘dehumanisation’, and ‘obedience without critical thinking and maintaining ethical standards’ can lead to moral exclusion. And in turn, it could result in turning a blind eye to genocide.

I’m thrilled to announce my next performance: Downhill Blues! This monologue tackles discrimination through the swiss cheese analogy.

Thursday 17th July, I shall be taking part at 'Word of Warning: Social Experiment', Contact Theatre, 6pm-9pm. It is a free event. Other artists performing (as it is now) are: Ben Hodge | James Moss | Leah Stone | Rachel Smith  and Xhi Ndubisi.

I Am an Orange Dot is a monologue inspired by stories of migrants and asylum seekers. The performance is followed by a Q and A / discussion session focusing on issues such as identity, race and freedom of movement.

I Am an Orange Dot. Part human, part not. Although I am not always appearing on statistics related to human casualties, I am one.

The monologue is dedicated to all of those who travel a long and scary road in order to find freedom and peace.

"I Am an Orange Dot", is a monologue written by Shahireh Sharif. It refers to a bird's-eye view of a body, in an orange life vest, floating in the ocean.

This event is supported by the Arts Council England and the Stockport Central Library. It is a free event and open to all, please be aware of the words of warning below.

Words of warning: Some viewer might find some of the topics discussed in the performance distressing.

The performance would be followed by an author event where Shahireh will be sharing extracts from her unpublished debut novel. Participants can leave their contact details to be informed of when the book is published with a discount code for getting 10% off the price of the book.

A fantastic night at theatre

My first experience of performing on stage
Last night, in the three minute theatre, I tasted the flavour of performing my own writing  on stage (Life café), and I loved it!
Everyone in the Women in the spotlight group was fantastic and when my name was called, my performance went smoothly as well, even better than what I hoped.
Thanks #Commonword for this unique experience and thanks to everyone who attended the session last night.

اولین اجرای تک گویی روی صحنه برایم بسیار جذاب بود. گمانم کم کم به نوشتن نمایشنامه و اجرای تاتر معتاد می شوم

با تشکر از خانواده و دوستان عزیزی که لطف کرده و با حضورشان خوشحالی مرا چند برابر کردند و کسانی که از راه دور با پیام های گرمشان همراهم بودند
